Iron and Steel Industry

Grasys is well-experienced in supplying equipment to iron and steel companies by offering high-tech engineering solutions to improve and increase the efficiency of your facility.

Nitrogen is used to protect both ferrous and non-ferrous metals while being engaged in the process of annealing, neutral hardening, cyanide carburizing, hard-soldering and powder metal sintering. Oxygen is used to increase furnace combustion temperature.

The Key Issues to Address

  • Supporting production processes in metal treatment
  • Metal protection while annealing
  • Increasing furnace combustion temperature
  • Air supply to blast furnaces

General Application

Increasing Furnace Combustion Temperature when Producing Ferrous and Non-Ferrous Metals OpenHide

Increasing furnace combustion temperature is an effective way to save fuel. Such approach to saving fuel can substantially improve performance of basic metals manufacture.

Heating up to 1100 - 1200°C and above in blast furnaces is caused by the use of oxygen. This is a typical oxidizing agent that increases combustion intensity of almost all substances when raising concentration in the air from 30%. Various metals and complex substances such as carbon, magnesium and iron are known to burn in oxygen.

Average iron and steel works producing 1 million tons of steel per year uses over 3 billion mᶾ of oxygen.

Such oxygen can be generated using adsorption and cryogenic oxygen units. Grasys is the only developer and manufacturer of high-performance adsorption oxygen units in Russia.

Air Supply to Blast Furnaces in the Iron and Steel Industry OpenHide

Compressor units to produce compressed air are used in ferrous and non-ferrous industry.

Compressed dry air is required to clean pipes of furnaces and heat exchangers, to blend products that ensure pneumatic mechanisms operation, control and automation devices.

High-quality air treatment (removal of moisture, mechanical impurities, oil vapors) is the most critical compressed air requirement for solutions in the iron and steel Industry. A multi-stage air cleaning and drying system is deployed to meet the desired requirements using air dryers, filters, coal columns.

Composition of a typical Grasys stationary air compressor system: compressor unit, air drying and purification system, monitoring and control system, storage receivers.

Grasys compressor units operate automatically, and ensure unmanned performance.
