It is remarkable that on February 4 Morocco saw the ceremony of opening and commissioning the world's largest solar power plant Nur 1 (from Arabic “nur” means “light”). The Nur 1 plant is reported to be built with the use of the most advanced technologies.

The 160MW power plant is located near Uarzazat in the south-east of the country. By 2020, Morocco plans to produce up to 42 % of its energy using renewable sources — sun, wind and water. By 2030, the kingdom anticipates that renewable energy production will reach 52 %.
