CNG filling stations are intended for vehicles fuelling with the compressed natural gas (CNG).
Depending on availability of a gas line and connectivity to the line, the CNG filling stations are classified as:
- Conventional «mother» CNG filling stations
- «Daughter» CNG filling stations
A conventional CNG filling station is a station consisting of process equipment packages accommodated in one or several containerized modules.
A prerequisite for such CNG filling station is availability of a gas line of a gas distribution network.
A conventional CNG filling station suits for filling of cars and trucks, buses, agricultural vehicles, mobile CNG refuellers and other CNG-fuelled vehicles.
A conventional CNG filling station is stationary.
In absence of a gas line, gas is supplied to a daughter CNG filling station by mobile gas filling stations, fuelled at a «mother» CNG filling station.
The advantage of the daughter CNG filling station is its’ mobility.
It provides for CNG supply not only to vehicles on the site, but also to remote fleet locations, and other facilities where no gas lines are available.
CNG advantages
The compressed natural gas (CNG) is the compressed methane applied as a motor fuel instead of gasoline, diesel fuel and propane-butane (liquefied hydrocarbon gases).
The compressed natural gas (CNG) is the only motor fuel that can be produced directly on the premises.
The core advantages of the own-produced CNG are
- Cost effectiveness. CNG is 2,5–3 cheaper than the conventional fuel. The prime costs in CNG production are gas and electric energy expenses, tariffs for which are controlled by the state.
- Environmental friendliness. CNG-fuelled vehicles meet the ecological standards Euro-4 and Euro-5. The greenhouse effect caused by CNG combustion products is lower compared to conventional fuels, therefore it is more ecologically safe.
- Safety. CNG belongs to the most safe fuel class 4 according to the flammables explosiveness classification. Methane is twice lighter than the air, therefore if leakage occurs it escapes quickly and tracklessly, and unlike to other fuels does not settle down building a dangerously explosive concentration.
- Energy security. Dependence is excluded on fuel supplies and on use of a filling station. No fuel transportation and storage costs.
- Easy production. The most extensive potential: providing for production of practically any amount of motor fuel and management of its transportation to remote consumers (when necessary).
- Fuel utilization control. Improper use of fuel is excluded.
- Fuel quality and persistent properties under low and high ambient temperatures.
- 1,5 times longer maintenance interval, sustainable uniform oil film of cylinders’ walls, the combustion chamber free of microparticles, reduced internal combustion engine pinking.
- Potential additional earnings from produced CNG sales to third parties at commercial prices.
Process equipment package of the CNG filling station includes:
|
Various types of reciprocating compressor units with wide range of pressures and performance capacities are applied in CNG filling stations. |
|
Inlet gas dryer
A low-pressure gas dryer is applied for purification and adsorption dehydration of gas at the compressor unit inlet.
Outlet gas dryer
High-pressure gas dryer is applied for dehydration of the highly (~250 kgf/cm2) compressed natural gas. |
|
The gas storage is applied for storage of the compressed natural gas (methane), «rapid» fuelling of bottled gas driven vehicles and reduction of compressor unit startups. |
|
CNG dispensers are applied for vehicles fuelling with the compressed natural gas (CNG). |
|
The intake valves module is applied for isolation and distribution of the gas flow supplied to the compressor unit of CNG filling station equipment, and for automated gas discharge in emergency situations. |
|
The automatic control system is applied for plant control according to the preset algorithm, parameters check, protection against emergency operation modes, communication of the state of mechanisms and transfer of data on the status of the station to the supremal. |
|
Modular CNG filling stations are applied for motor vehicles fuelling with CNG, and can be mounted both at operating filling stations and at a standalone CNG filling station. Due to the design of the block-modular station, it can be installed on any site and assembled within a short time. |
|
Mobile CNG refuellers are applied for transportation and storage of the compressed natural gas, fuelling of vehicles and stationary gas storage stations using the natural gas as the motor fuel. |
