Natural Gas Treatment for Delivery to the Gas Transmission System

Membrane units for gas treatment to meet the requirements of the gas transport system in terms of gas dew point for water and hydrocarbons, content of heavy hydrocarbons and sulphur compounds, etc. The Grasys technology makes it possible to dehydrate gas without restrictions on the content of heavy hydrocarbons and gases containing sulphur compounds.

Natural Gas Treatment for Delivery to the Gas Transmission System

Gas accepted for transportation by pipeline is subject to composition specifications. defined by STO Gazprom 089-2010. This regulation sets requirements for the gas dew point for water and hydrocarbons, content of heavy hydrocarbons and sulphur compounds, etc.

The most common non-conformity is exceeding the gas dew point for hydrocarbons and moisture. Today, many small, medium and large fields remain undeveloped or underdeveloped simply because of the high capital and operating costs associated with gas treatment for transportation. The problem of gas dehydration (mainly from moisture) also exists when gas is withdrawn from underground storage.

The treatment of petroleum gas for transportation and delivery involves the process of purifying the product from impurities and components that impede its passage through the gas transport pipeline. The presence of H2O as well as aggressive impurities and liquid hydrocarbon compounds in petroleum gas can lead not only to a reduction in pipeline capacity but also to corrosion of equipment.

Grasys membrane units can significantly lower the gas dew point for both moisture and hydrocarbons. Depending on the process design, the gas can be dehydrated by 15 to 60 °C. The use of Grasys technology makes it possible to achieve the moisture dew point required by OST 51.40-93 at a dried gas pressure of 4.0 MPa. Petroleum gas treatment with simultaneous removal of several impurities in a single process cycle is also successfully achieved with Grasys membrane gas separation units.

Grasys membrane units for petroleum gas treatment can be ordered using the feedback form on our website.   • reduction of the raw gas dew point for water and hydrocarbons, content of sulphur-bearing impurities and carbon dioxide to meet the requirements for supply to the gas transport system in accordance with STO Gazprom 089-2010, as well as ensuring prevention of the formation of condensate and gas-hydrate plugs, compliance of the treated gas with the necessary requirements of the Customer's specification;
  • For natural gas with low heavy hydrocarbon content — providing only dehydration from water while maintaining the calorific value of the gas;
  • For associated petroleum gas with high heavy hydrocarbon content — simultaneous dehydration from both water and hydrocarbons with adjustment of calorific value and Wobbe number;
  • Reduction of C4+ content by a factor of 2.5–6.0. The residual content is less than 2% vol.;
  • REDUCTION of C5+ content by a factor of 6–12. The residual content is less than 0.5% vol.

The membrane technology makes it possible to dehydrate gas without restrictions on the content of heavy hydrocarbons and gases containing sulphur compounds.

The Technology Developed Provides

  • Dehydration of associated petroleum gas to meet requirements for transportation to the gas processing plant for further processing, while significantly reducing heating costs during transportation
  • Dehydration of natural gas as it is withdrawn from storage facilities prior to transportation to consumers
  • The use of membrane gas dehydration units instead of (or in addition to) adsorption dehydration units in gas processing plants
