Applications of Nitrogen Fire-Fighting Units

The nitrogen fire-fighting unit is designed to extinguish fires caused by the ignition of various combustible substances that cannot burn without air access, such as oil, oil products or gas condensate, in confined spaces and premises, and to prevent fire and explosion hazards in oil and gas production facilities.

Operating Principle of a Nitrogen Fire-Fighting Unit

The operating principle is based on the inert properties of the generated air mixture with a nitrogen content of 95–99%. Such level of nitrogen in the air makes combustion impossible. The gaseous nitrogen generated by the membrane gas separation unit of the nitrogen fire extinguishing unit is pressurised into a receiver whose capacity is calculated on the basis of the volume of the rooms and reservoirs to be protected by the unit.

General Description

In the event of a fire, nitrogen is automatically injected into the space in which the ignition has taken place. This ensures that fires are extinguished quickly and reliably, without damage to equipment or personnel. The nitrogen fire-fighting unit can also be used to purge the process volumes, with the nitrogen generated being automatically replenished.

Nitrogen fire-fighting units have a number of objective advantages due to their ease of installation and maintenance and high cost effectiveness.
